Nestled into the ridge of Bills Drive in Nelson, this warm contemporary home has commanding views of Tasman Bay from every room.
Considerations:
An earthquake faultline running across the front edge of the site and strong prevailing winds were our primary concerns because the home needed to be resilient to protect our clients while also open and light to take in the expansive views.
Our solution:
Our solution was to pull the mass of the home away from the faultline. The living, dining and kitchen make the most of the views and are as light as possible. To provide a protected outdoor area for entertaining, we positioned the master suite to shelter an internal courtyard which opened into the main living space and the rumpus room but maintained a visual connection to the views.
Decking off the kitchen and dining area helped obscure houses in the foreground to create a sense of complete privacy and seclusion.
