Tight build requirements, amazing views
In the aftermath of the devastating Christchurch Earthquake, our client's residence lay in ruins, necessitating a fresh start.
The task at hand was clear: to preserve the original shape of the previous home while infusing it with a modern aesthetic and seamlessly connecting it to the existing gardens at the rear of the property.
We were fortunate to collaborate with a forward-thinking builder who embraced unconventional ideas, enabling us to explore innovative approaches and deliver a design that would uplift our clients' spirits while maintaining a high standard of quality. Together, we we ensured that every dollar was maximized for its worth.
Working closely with the builder, we strategically managed the build costs while upholding superior quality. Our design cleverly capitalized on the panoramic views across the city, capitalizing on the home's location to provide both visual delight and shelter from the persistent Nor' Westerly wind, courtesy of the well-designed kwila deck. The existing access limitations turned into an advantage, providing ample parking space, efficiently utilizing every inch of available area.
The crowning glory of the design was the main living room with its soaring raking ceiling, creating an illusion of vastness and openness. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed the breathtaking northern views, seamlessly merging the indoor space with the expansive deck. This thoughtful integration not only amplified the sense of spaciousness but also brought the natural beauty of the surroundings inside, making the living and dining areas feel grand and inviting.
In the end, the collaboration between innovative design, strategic thinking, and a builder who dared to step outside the norm resulted in a home that not only met the constraints but exceeded expectations. Our clients were not just provided with a house; they were given a sanctuary that encapsulated their vision, all within the confines of a strict budget, showcasing the power of creativity and collaboration.
